So you've got a digital SLR, or maybe you are considering buying one and want to learn more about it. I have decided to write a few short articles to help you out. They are just a number of blog posts covering a specific aspect of the digital SLR.

This post covers just general advice around photography. While this series of posts is about digital SLR's the advice given here can be applied whenever you pick up a camera, SLR or not.

My third post is about shutter speed. Shutter speed is probably the thing you will most often modify, and as such the thing you really need to understand.

My fourth post quickly describes aperture, and how it affects depth of field. Aperture is the size of the hole in your lens. The number is inverse proportional to the size of the hole. That means that the smaller the number the bigger the hole.

This post is about the focal length of your lenses, and how misleading "times optical zoom" is when it comes to describing your lens. One of the really cool things with SLR's is that you can swap the lens easily. But why would you want to take a lens off? To make the camera do what you want it to do of course! By putting on a tele-photo lens you can take close up photos of shy birds without getting so close that they fly away. By putting on a wide angle lens you can capture wide vistas maybe take one photo that shows the whole room.

We are up to the sixth post already. This post covers basic information around the ISO setting, a setting I feel most users have not really understood what it is about.

In this post I talk about about filters for your lenses. I mention a few different filters as well as a filter you really want to have.

This is a short post about how to manage files and my thoughts around that. It is very personal so be prepared to disagree with me on this post.

This post focus on more advanced things. The topics covered here is usually not used on a day to day basis, but still worth noting.

The second last post sums things up a bit. It is a very short post. Just giving the last thoughts that did not fit anywhere else
